Action Adventure Films

Action- The hero is thrown into a series of challenges which feature physical feats, combat and chases.
Adventure- The protagonist explores exotic locations and overcomes dangerous scenarios.

Adventure Films have many sub-genres-

  • Swashbuckler (Characterised by sword fighting and adventurous heroic characters. Eg, The mask of Zorro)
  • Disaster (The characters deal with an impending or ongoing disaster and its aftermath. Eg, Independence Day)
  • Fantasy (Heroic story set in an invented world which is more fanciful than our own world. Eg, Avatar)
  • Quest (The protagonist goes on an epic search for an object of value or someone of personal importance. Eg, National Treasure)
  • Thriller (An exciting, suspenseful and tense plot in which the hero usually overcomes a series of obstacles set by the villain. Eg, Die Hard)
  • Historical (An epic story set in a recognisable historical period or against the backdrop of a famous historical event, Eg, Gladiator/Titanic)
